First Impressions

Walking into the Waterfront Hotel, you immediately get that feeling of stepping into something well-maintained without being stuffy. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that feels refreshingly unpretentious — honestly, it’s exactly what you want after a long flight into Taipei. The staff greets you with genuine warmth, and there’s this sense that they actually care about making your stay comfortable rather than just going through the motions.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about Songshan District — it’s one of those areas that locals love but tourists sometimes overlook, which actually works in your favor. You’re positioned perfectly on Songhe Street, and I mean perfectly. The Songshan Airport is practically next door (super handy for those early morning flights), but you’re also close enough to the action that getting to Xinyi or downtown takes maybe 15 minutes by MRT. What really surprised me was how walkable the neighborhood is — there are these great little restaurants and convenience stores right around the corner, plus you can stroll along the nearby waterfront areas without dealing with the crowds you’d find in more touristy spots.

The Room Experience

You know what they say about the beds being comfortable? Well, they’re not kidding around. I’m usually pretty picky about mattresses, but I slept like a rock here — the kind of deep sleep where you wake up actually refreshed instead of groggy. The rooms themselves are smartly designed, making good use of space without feeling cramped. Everything’s clean and functional, with decent-sized windows that let in plenty of natural light. The bathrooms are modern and well-appointed, though not huge — but honestly, who spends that much time in the bathroom anyway?

Three-Star Value

This three-star property punches above its weight in ways that actually matter to travelers. The Wi-Fi works reliably throughout the building (I tested it), the air conditioning keeps things comfortable even during Taipei’s humid summers, and the housekeeping is thorough. You’re not getting marble everything or a concierge in white gloves, but you are getting solid fundamentals executed well. The front desk staff speaks good English and seems genuinely knowledgeable about the city — they gave me restaurant recommendations that were spot-on.

Why Guests Love It

Couples especially seem to gravitate toward this place, and after staying here, I totally get why. There’s something about the combination of the peaceful neighborhood setting and easy access to the rest of Taipei that creates this perfect balance. You can have a romantic dinner at one of the nearby riverside restaurants, then catch the MRT into the city for nightlife, all without feeling like you’re constantly battling crowds or noise. Plus, when you’re sharing a room, having a genuinely comfortable bed makes all the difference — trust me on this one. The Waterfront Hotel delivers on the basics so well that you end up focusing on enjoying Taipei instead of dealing with hotel hassles.

  It’s my third stay at this hotel. It is still as good as before. Clean, friendly Staff, and the always-nice view of the river. I’m surprised how well it’s been maintained 5 years later after the pandemic.

  Love the location, it’s within an 5 mins walk to the Rapha St Night market. Location is next to the river and the bike path. Very convenient if you are planning to ride. The rooms were spacious and clean. Simple design and comfortable. Bathroom was clean. Staff were very helpful and patient. They allowed us to pack/assemble/park our bicycles in the open air space with the hotel. Nice river view if you get the ones with balcony. You can see the rainbow bridge.
