Banqiao might not be the first district tourists think of, but you know what? It’s actually brilliant for getting around. The MRT connections are fantastic — you can reach central Taipei in about 20 minutes, and honestly, the prices for everything from street food to shopping are noticeably better here than in the main tourist areas. Couples seem to really get this (they rate the location 8.7), probably because you get that authentic Taiwanese neighborhood feel without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. There’s a traditional market just a few blocks away that comes alive in the mornings, and the local restaurant serve some of the best beef noodle soup I’ve had outside of the city center.

The Room Experience

My room was on the seventh floor, and while it wasn’t huge, everything felt thoughtfully arranged. The bed was actually comfortable — not always a given at this price point — and the bathroom had decent water pressure, which matters more than you’d think after a long day of walking around. The air conditioning worked well (crucial in Taipei’s humidity), and there were enough outlets near the desk for all my devices. I mean, it’s not upscale by any stretch, but for a three-star place, they’ve clearly put effort into making sure the basics are done right.

Service That Stands Out

What really impressed me was how the staff handled the little things. When I asked about getting to Ximending for the night markets, the front desk guy didn’t just give me directions — he actually drew a little map showing which MRT exit to use and recommended a specific stall for xiaolongbao. The housekeeping was consistent too, and they restocked the tea and coffee daily without me having to ask. It’s that kind of attention that probably explains why so many guests come back here instead of trying somewhere new.

The Royal Garden Hotel works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You’re getting solid three-star comfort in a neighborhood that feels genuinely Taiwanese, with staff who actually seem to care about your experience. The repeat guest rate here is unusually high, and after staying a few nights, I can see why — it’s reliable, well-located for exploring both Banqiao and central Taipei, and priced fairly for what you get. If you want to experience Taipei like a local while still having a comfortable base, this place delivers on that promise without any pretense.
