First Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into First Hotel on Nanking East Road, you immediately get that comfortable, no-nonsense vibe that makes you think “okay, this works.” It’s not trying to be something it isn’t — this three-star property knows exactly what it does well and sticks to it. The lobby feels welcoming without being flashy, and honestly, after a long flight into Taipei, that’s exactly what you want.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about staying on Nanking East Road — you’re basically in the sweet spot of the city. I mean, couples consistently rate this location almost a 9 out of 10, and after spending time in the area, I totally get why. You’re walking distance from the Zhongshan MRT station, which connects you to pretty much everywhere you need to go. The neighborhood has that perfect mix of local life and tourist accessibility — there are convenience stores on every corner (you know how Taiwan does 7-Eleven), plus some really solid street food options that you’ll stumble across just by wandering around.
The Room Experience
What surprised me most was how well I actually slept here. The beds are genuinely comfortable — not just “decent for the price” comfortable, but actually good. The room itself is compact but smartly designed, which is pretty typical for Taipei hotels in this range. You’ve got everything you need without feeling cramped, and the air conditioning works well (crucial during Taiwan’s humid summers). The windows offer decent city views, though don’t expect anything spectacular — it’s more about the practical comfort than Instagram moments.
Breakfast & Dining
The buffet breakfast is solid — nothing fancy, but it covers all the bases with both Western and local options. You’ll find congee, some Taiwanese breakfast staples, plus the usual eggs and toast situation. It’s the kind of breakfast that fuels you for a day of exploring without being memorable in itself. There’s no on-site restaurant for other meals, but honestly, you’re in Taipei — some of the city’s best food is literally steps from the front door.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it gets the fundamentals right without overcomplicating things. The location score of 8.6 isn’t just a number — it reflects how easy it makes exploring the city. You’re close enough to major attractions but far enough from the chaos to actually rest. The staff is helpful without being intrusive, and there’s reliable WiFi throughout (always a concern when you’re trying to navigate a new city). For travelers who want a clean, comfortable base in an excellent location without paying five-star prices, First Hotel delivers exactly that. It’s not going to wow you, but it’s going to take care of you, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

The staff was wonderful, especially in the reception. This made the stay even better. I will surely consider this hotel next time, and I go very often. Better if it is cheaper, but I guess it's a common wish.
The building is old, so don't expect a year old facility, but it is quite well preserved.Good – Stuart from United Kingdom (7/10)
Good breakfast. Buffet style.

Excellent location, helpful staff. Near a metro stop. Room had two double beds, though advertised as twin beds so seemed like a bonus. Nice to have refrigerator in room. Small balcony a plus.
Overall is good. But cannot fully close a curtain – Thit from Thailand (7/10)

Peaceful, quiet, comfortable. – Chang from Singapore (7/10)
Great. Not too many choices but sufficient.
Pleasant – Dcintw from Germany (6/10)
The location is excellent. Several buses stop right in the front and it's at the very center of Taipei. The room is spacious and equipped with lots of amenities, which is uncommon these days. In addition, the breakfast was included and it's difficult to find in such price range nowadays in Taipei.
