CU Hotel Taipei Overview
First Impressions
Walking into CU Hotel Taipei on the second floor of a building on Minsheng West Road, you immediately get the sense this is a boutique spot that knows exactly what it’s doing. It’s not trying to be flashy or oversized — honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property has this clean, modern vibe that feels more upscale than you’d expect, and the staff genuinely seems happy to see you arrive.
Location & Getting Around
The Datong District location is actually brilliant if you want to experience Taipei like locals do rather than just hitting the typical tourist spots. You’re walking distance from Dihua Street’s traditional shops and the weekend flower market, plus the MRT connections make it ridiculously easy to get anywhere in the city. I mean, couples are rating this location 9.1 out of 10 for good reason — you can stroll to authentic night markets in one direction and catch the metro to Taipei 101 in the other. The neighborhood has this perfect mix of old-school Taiwan charm and modern convenience that you just don’t find everywhere.
The Room Experience
The room design surprised me — they’ve managed to pack a lot of functionality into what isn’t a huge space, but it never feels cramped. Everything’s thoughtfully placed, from the work desk positioning to the bathroom layout, and the beds are actually comfortable (not always a given at this price point). The soundproofing works well too, which matters when you’re in a busy district like this. You know what I appreciated most? The little touches like decent lighting for reading and enough outlets where you actually need them.
Breakfast & Dining
The buffet breakfast is solid — not elaborate, but they cover the basics well with both Western and local options. You’ll find congee alongside toast, fresh fruit, and coffee that’s better than hotel standard. It’s the kind of spread that gets you fed and energized without overwhelming you with choices. The dining area gets busy around 8 AM, so if you’re not a morning person, going a bit earlier or later makes for a more relaxed experience.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances being genuinely helpful without being intrusive — the front desk staff knows the area well and gives recommendations that actually make sense for different types of travelers. The 8.1 guest rating reflects what you experience: a hotel that delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. It’s particularly great for couples who want to explore beyond the main tourist areas but still have easy access to everything Taipei offers. The combination of that fantastic location rating and the overall quality makes it one of those finds you end up recommending to friends.

Overall this place was very satisfactory. Nothing special. Certainly away from the tourist area with a stong local vibe. Breakfast was very adequate.
Very Good – Nikolina from North Macedonia (8/10)
The location is very close to the main metro station and the bus station, which is a walking distance and convenient if you have a flight after midnight.
Good – Susan from Taiwan (7/10)
Beds are a thin foam mattress and sometimes uncomfortable. Room is nice. It only has four beds and the privacy curtains are good. There is also locked storage at the head of the bed for which only you have the key. Nice securities. They do have a washer and a dryer for NT$50 each if you need to do laundry. A spinner to get ride of the extra water before drying is also provided. This was good for me.
Great hotel – Carrie from Singapore (9/10)
Convenience, good location, plenty of food places, near to the MRT
It was not bad though needs to improve on cleanliness on the common toilet areas – Millard from Saudi Arabia (7/10)
The staff were great.
Very Good – Łukasz from Poland (8/10)
The room was quite small but for such an area well planned. I appreciated that lockers were also on the top level of beds. The hostel was very clean. The night market was just behind the corner.
For me, nice neighborhood – Newton from Canada (7/10)
Breakfast is nice
Great location – Rositsa from Bulgaria (9/10)
The best part about this hotel is the location. It is literally within the Ningxia Night Market. Breakfast is also okay and had some local dishes as options which was great. While the rooms are older, they are kept relatively clean.
