Bayman Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Bayman Hotel, you immediately get that “boutique but not trying too hard” vibe that’s honestly pretty refreshing in Taipei. It’s tucked away on this quiet lane off Chang’an West Road in Datong District — you know, one of those spots where you feel like you’ve discovered something the tour groups haven’t found yet. The lobby isn’t massive, but there’s something warm about the space that makes you want to linger with a coffee. The overall atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between intimate and welcoming.
Location That Actually Works
Here’s the thing about Datong District — it’s where old Taipei meets the new stuff, and this three-star hotel sits right in the sweet spot. You’re walking distance from Dihua Street (perfect for that traditional market experience), but also close enough to the main shopping areas that you won’t spend half your day on the MRT. Couples seem to really get this location — there’s something romantic about wandering these older neighborhoods together, especially in the evening when the street food vendors start setting up. The accessibility to both cultural landmarks and modern conveniences makes it ideal for various travelers.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — you know how some places just cram furniture in? Not here. Everything feels intentional, from the lighting to the way they’ve maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The bed was actually comfortable (not always a given at this price point), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that makes you want to stay in longer than you should. There’s decent soundproofing too, which matters when you’re in the city center. The attention to detail throughout creates a surprisingly luxurious feel.
Neighborhood Discoveries
What I really loved was stepping outside and immediately being in this authentic part of Taipei. There’s a traditional medicine shop right around the corner, and honestly, just watching the locals go about their daily routine was fascinating. The street food scene here is incredible — you’ll find some of the best xiaolongbao without the tourist markup. Plus, if you’re into temples, Xiahai City God Temple is just a short walk away, and it’s way less crowded than the famous ones everyone visits.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a place with a fancy spa or multiple restaurants, but that’s sort of the point. It’s genuine, well-located, and the staff actually seems to care about making your stay work. The recent guest ratings speak for themselves — people keep coming back because it delivers on what matters: a clean, comfortable base in a neighborhood that feels real. You’re paying for location and authenticity here, not marble lobbies and overpriced room service. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having this quieter corner of Taipei to retreat to after busy days exploring the city.
Best hotels in Taipei blend skyline pools, teppanyaki chef counters, and temple-view lounges.

Very Good – Joanne from United Kingdom (8/10)
It was very close to Taipei main station which was handy when getting around the city.
The staff were very friendly and helpful when required.
It was very close (opposite) to a laundrette, so we were able to do the washing for little cost and without carting it for ever back to a hotel.
The only downside was that we unfortunately did not have a window. And the bed was against the wall which made it more difficult for 1 of us to get out of bed. Despite this, we enjoyed the stay and would book again to explore the city around the hotel. Will choose again if I’m around the area. – Erlie from New Zealand (9/10)
Nicely located near MRT and bus station. Very helpful staff.
Great Location, nice place but could use some upgrading work. – Shrynn from Malaysia (8/10)
The location of the place is really convenient. Less than 10mins walk away from train station and a good town to stay in. There’s ample food selection around the place.

The location is perfect. The room was very small, almost no window but clean and with all necessary equipement. The reception was very nice. A good stay for a single night in Taipei
Great hospitality – Kyoihishi from Malaysia (9/10)
Had a clean room with complete amenities that should meet the needs of every solo traveller.
Had a small incident in the room involving the ventilation cover which was immediately remediated by the management team. Sincerity in handling the matter was truly appreciated.
